Chat & Chew!! Fifty teenage males from various high schools, in Macon, GA, will participate in a day-long field trip to the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and Alabama State University. This second 2018 Chat & Chew installment will provide the students with another opportunity to learn the importance of the Civil Rights Movement and how it impacts their everyday lives. They will also tour the world-class Alabama State University that started as the Lincoln Normal School, in 1867, with $500 raised by nine freed slaves now known as the Marion Nine. "This trip was more than I expected it to be. I just came because my parents made me but I really learned a lot today. I didn't know that other races were involved in the Civil Rights Movement." (student attendee of the previous Chat & Chew) Attendees will be encouraged to discuss what they learned. Lunch will be provided and gift bags given to each teen. The field trip will take place on October 9, 2018 from 9am to 5pm. “I'm very excited about this next Chat & Chew field trip wherein the teens will, once again, further their understanding of the sacrifices and accomplishments of African Americans over the last few decades.” Sheddrick Clark, CEO of 9 Entertainment About the Organizers The Urban CEO is a nonprofit organization whose vision is to serve as a catalyst and bride-builder that influences culture and provides solutions to community renewal, development and empowerment.
