Chat & Chew!! Fifty teenage males from various high schools, in Macon, GA, will participate in a day-long field trip to the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and Alabama State University. This second 2018 Chat & Chew installment will provide the students with another opportunity to learn the importance of the Civil Rights Movement and how it impacts their everyday lives. They will also tour the world-class Alabama State University that started as the Lincoln Normal School, in 1867, with $500 raised by nine freed slaves now known as the Marion Nine. "This trip was more than I expected it to be. I just came because my parents made me but I really learned a lot today. I didn't know that other races were involved in the Civil Rights Movement." (student attendee of the previous Chat & Chew) Attendees will be encouraged to discuss what they learned. Lunch will be provided and gift bags given to each teen.
